Camp friends also keep me in check when it comes to shopping sustainably each summer. I’m not going to lie, that one made me feel especially cool.

Past leaders and friends always let me know when they are inspired by certain posts ( this one was a hit), my camp friends die at the thought of making an appearance on T&T, and the Junior Leader in my cabin this summer even said “oh my god, you’re Tunes And Tunics?” when I offered her some blueberries from my favorite berry picking spot (which has become a yearly blog location). Can you tell I love camp?!?!?!Īnother thing I love about camp is how much the people here love my blog. It’s little things like this that seem so normal about camp that, in reality, have been huge influences in my life. And even better, I cannot wait to read them. I cannot remember the last time I read a book for fun, and the three I walked out with are We Should All Be Feminists by Chimimanda Ngozie Adichie, Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit, and We Were Feminists Once by Andie Zeisler (AKA books of essays about feminism and a history of how feminism has found its way into pop culture). I even went to Barnes And Noble today and walked out with three (yes, three) books. The time I have spent at camp, however, has had the largest impact on me as a woman, as a feminist, as a friend, and as a person in general. Girl power is something that, thankfully, has been a part of my entire life: I grew up with a sister, my gaggle of friends in fifth grade encouraged me to join the boys’ football games at recess each day, my dance teachers from my 13 years of classes were as inspiring as could possibly be, I attended an all-girls high school, I joined a sorority in my first week of college, and I have spent 357 days of my life at a girls sleep away camp. Although I love the opportunity to unplug each summer and spend my days beneath pine trees and on the shores of Lake Champlain, being among such strong women has been the most incredible part of going to camp each year. This is my ninth summer at camp, the same camp where I have been a camper, where I trained to be a leader, and where I have been able to lead my own cabin for the last three summers. I have been in Vermont for the past month and a half working as a camp counselor at a girls sleep away camp (hence the lack of posts and increasingly green Instagram photos).
